On Monday, Mar. 8, math teacher, Joel Frans was announced as GMC’s ’22-’23 Teacher of the Year. While on lunch duty, the GMC admin surprised him with the news with cake and his family.

Frans has been teaching for 12 years. But why did he want to teach?

When Frans was in high school, he had a math teacher and basketball coach who was a great influence on him. In college, Frans worked for him as a summer counselor for two summers. He found his passion in teaching and decided to pursue a degree in education.

When asked about what he loves about teaching at GMC, he said: “One of the reasons I love teaching at GMC is because of the other teachers I get to work with.  They motivate me to want to be the best at my job.  The teachers at this school are very talented and support each other.  They care about each other’s success and are always willing to provide feedback on ways we can improve classroom instruction.  Another reason I love teaching at GMC is because of the students I have the privilege of teaching.  The students here are motivated to do their best and they have a great attitude toward learning which makes the classroom environment so much fun.”

Congratulations on winning Teacher of the Year, Mr. Frans!
