Coachella 2023 LineUp

Alex Fowler, Sports Editor

What is Coachella? Coachella is an annual music and arts festival held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, in the Coachella Valley in the Colorado Desert. The festival was co-founded by Paul Tollet and Rick Van Santen in 1999. The event features musical artists from many genres of music, as well as art installations and sculptures.

Location/Dates: Coachella is hosted by Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. The festival lasts two weekends, with the first set of dates from April 14th to 16th and the second set of dates from April 21st to 23rd.

MUSIC:

This year’s festival lineup has fans of many genres tuning in. Rapper Bad Bunny is headlining day 1 of both festival weekends, joined by singers Burna Boy, Kaytranada, MUNA, and more.

Day 2 welcomes K-pop group BLACKPINK, followed by ROSALÍA, $uicideboy$, Labrinth, and many others. On the final day of the festival, Frank Ocean will be the headliner, making history as the first openly gay artist to do so. Day 3 performers include Porter Robinson, Dominic Fike, and Latto.

ART:

According to Cochella.com/art, “Coachella’s curators scour the globe for artists, architects, and designers to transform the Empire Polo Field…Newly-commissioned, large-scale art installations and returning favorites offer fans art as landmark, public space, and icon—to be viewed from perspectives as diverse and dynamic as Coachella’s lineup of performers.”

A few of the artists attending this year consist of creators like Güvenç Özel, Kumkum Fernando, Maggie West, and Vincent Leroy. Some returning favorites include The Balloon Chain by Robert Bose and Spectra by NEWSUBSTANCE.

ACTIVITIES:

While you’re not watching the performers or looking at all of the artwork, you might find yourself checking out some of Coachella’s activities that are offered. You can participate in Classic games, video games, dance competitions, and more, and you may even win some prizes!

Another fun activity is the “do it yourself” arts and crafts space. All art materials will be supplied, and it is completely free. A classic favorite for all is the Ferris Wheel. Take a ride at the top of the iconic Ferris Wheel while taking in the epic desert views of the entire Coachella Valley. Last but not least, we have The Field of Dreams. If you’re looking for a bit of competition, The Field of Dreams has become a fan favorite in the campgrounds. From the high-flying action of dodgeball to the edge-of-your-seat anticipation of a giant flip cup. While these are just a few activities of what Coachella has to offer, be sure to check it out for yourself and consider taking a trip down to California for a weekend full of fun adventures.
