GMC is beyond fortunate to have such dedicated and hardworking educators at our school. One such educator our publication wants to recognize is The Forge’s very own Justin Lowman.
Recently, Jostens, an education memorabilia manufacturer, recognized teachers from across the state with the “Difference Maker Award”.
Winning the award included a larger-than-life accomplishment ring delivered by Jostens, a Jostens lunchbox and a gift card.
The requirements for winning the award were simple: an individual chosen by administration who makes a difference in the school community.
GMC administration discussed who this recipient should be, and they concluded it to be Lowman.
James Dillard, associate principal, says “Mr. Lowman is always not just offering to help, he actually really helps! And he helps with events and things that are outside of what would be normally required and expected.”
Specifically, administration notes Lowman’s helping attitude towards afternoon carlines.
Everyone else (spare Brendan Lapoe) are only required to work the line on either A or B days, but Lowman (and Lapoe) help every single day. Dillard says, “It’s huge for us to know that he’s there doing what he does!”
Students recognize Lowman’s dedication to his role as a teacher, too. Lowman is understanding of deadlines and takes time to consider a student’s experiences, all while maintaining an amiable classroom and an impeccable collection of bow ties.
I asked a student in Lowman’s English 4 class about her opinion of Lowman as a teacher and said “There are so many things that are great about Lowman. He is very gracious and so kind and takes the time to go talk to students and ask how he can help. Even if we are getting on his last nerve, he takes the time. He is also very knowledgeable about the subject material and knows how to lead a conversation. Communication wise, he knows what to do to make the class work. Ugh, love him.”
Good teachers may be easy to find, but great teachers are not so clear to see. Thankfully, the search gets easier at GMC, and finally stops at room number (room number).
Thank you, Lowman.
