Michael McCollum is the newest art teacher at GMC.
He graduated from Anderson University with a degree in art education. He took a small break before beginning teaching due to the start of COVID-19.
He taught at Greenville Technical Charter High School for three years before being offered a position as an art teacher at GMC.
When asked what drove him to apply at GMC, McCollum says that he worked with students with disabilities and children in foster care who came to art centers in order to learn: “I’ve always been in the art community teaching, but I’ve never been with a high school contracted.”
While an art room can be naturally chaotic, he strives to keep a tidy and organized classroom. “I think when it comes to art…having a clean and organized space is the best way to start the creative process,” states McCollum. He believes that cleanliness is very refreshing and important in an art classroom.
He is most excited to teach ceramics. This is his first time teaching this course, and is happy to have the opportunity to learn with the students.
We are happy to have you, Mr. McCollum!
